Track Information & Schedule
During track, all students in athletics class participate in a running group. We have three off-season groups and they will do workouts designed specifically for their group and skills.
Sprinters: Jones
Mid-Distance: Kuykendall
Distance: Reyes/Lucas
Blocks/Relays: Reyes/Gutierrez
How track works for all:
Some athletes might not participate in a track meet, but they will be assigned a group that best suits them to help enhance their sport of choice. For example: some basketball players will be placed in the sprint or mid-distance group to help them with court speed and running technique.
All running and timing will be done in the period with their coach. All field events will be held after school for those who would like to compete in Shot, Disc, Long jump, Triple jump, Pole Vault and High jump. Hurdles are a running event, so depending on the athlete, some will workout during the period and others after school.
We fill competition spots in each meet based on qualifying times and distances. This year we are able to take 4 to 5 athletes per grade and 3 athletes per event for the District Meet. Everything we do in track is either timed or measured and we will post new standings each week, so the athletes know where they stand.
** First practice will be this Wednesday, Feb. 4th.
We will have tryouts for our athletes to try all events and find which field events that are best suited for them.
Field event coaches: These coaches will be coaching both 7th & 8th grade boys and girls. Please reach out to their specific event coaches with questions.
